Sally Greenaway's London Evolution
| |
ConneXion was honoured to be able to perform at the very talented Sally Greenaway's farewell concert, London Evolution, held at the Street Theatre on 19 June. We played Sally's prize-winning big band composition, Falling of Seasons, featuring Gerry Foster on tenor and Dan Mclean on trumpet. Our second piece was Sally's arrangement of A Taste of Honey, with Dave Andrews on vocals and a sizzling trumpet solo by Dan Mclean. It was a great contribution to a concert featuring some incredible local musicians. We wish Sally all the best with her studies.

Merimbula Jazz Festival 2009
| |
ConneXion enjoyed its 5th appearance at the Merimbula Jazz Festival over the June long weekend. On Saturday night we played to a good crowd in the Sapphire Room. Leisa Keen left the audience wanting more with her performance of Cry Me a River, A Foggy Day, Mr Better and Almost like being in love. Gerry Foster was magic on Begin the Beguine with his soloing expertise, and the troms blew the room out with Volga Boatmen, topped off nicely with Bryan Hooley's bari sax solo.

On Sunday afternoon we played in the new Sapphire Auditorium with more room and a really responsive sound. The band lifted its performance and this time we managed to get through the whole program! Gerry again held the audience with his mesmerising solos on tenor. Troms, bari sax, trumpets, keys and percussion all delivered great solos. Natalie Magee stepped in at the last minute and delivered a fantastic rendition of All of Me with a scat solo and had the audience wrapped round her little finger with Misty. All in all, a wonderful weekend. See our images gallery .
